Tom Booth-Amos secured a strong Sunday podium at the Emilia Romagna round of the FIM Supersport World Championship today as he battled his way to second place at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli. The PTR Triumph Factory Racing rider backed up his fourth-place finish in race one.

Despite suffering from illness throughout the weekend, the British rider made the most of a busy Friday schedule and put his PTR Triumph Street Triple 765 RS machine seventh on the grid for Saturday’s opening race, just ahead of his teammate Oli Bayliss.

A quick start from the third row saw the number 69 rider hold onto seventh on the opening lap before working his way up the order by the mid-race stage. Slotting into fifth on lap eight, Booth-Amos continued his charge forward, passing Jaume Masia and then launching an attack on Can Oncu, who was holding the final place on the podium.

Looking for a way through on the final lap, he made his move into the Carro corner, but Oncu was quick to fight back, fending Booth-Amos off through the final two corners. An optimistic move from Masia behind resulted in contact between the pair, with Booth-Amos escaping unfazed to secure a fourth-place finish as Masia crashed out behind.

Meanwhile, teammate Bayliss also enjoyed a positive race one. The Australian rider battled hard throughout the 18-lap race and ultimately crossed the line in seventh to add a healthy dose of points to his championship tally.

Today’s second race saw Booth-Amos launch from the front row of the grid and instantly marked himself as a podium contender. Ending the opening lap in fourth, Booth-Amos kept the pressure up on his rivals ahead and forced a mistake from Valentin Debise ahead which promoted the Triumph rider to third. From there, Booth-Amos pushed on and escaped from the clutches of a fierce battle behind.

With a healthy gap to fourth, he continued to push on and eventually got the better of Aldi Mahendra ahead to move into second. The pressure from Mahendra remained on the flag, but despite the maximum effort, there was no way through for his rival as Booth-Amos took the chequered flag in second place, recording his best result of the season so far and taking his podium tally to three ahead of his home round in July.

Bayliss also featured in the fierce battle of Misano as the Triumph rider made a strong getaway from 11th on the grid. Locking in his position in the fierce 11 rider scrap for fourth, the number 32 rider pushed on, but a mistake at Quercia corner dropped him out of the points running and crossed the line in 16th position.

The PTR Triumph Factory Racing team will return to action in early July for their, Tom’s and Triumph’s home round of the FIM Supersport World Championship at the picturesque Donington Park on July 10-12th. In the meantime, Bayliss will compete in the Quattro Group British Supersport Championship with the Macadam Triumph Factory Racing Team, starting with Knockhill on June 19-21.

Tom Booth-Amos - PTR Triumph Factory Racing

“It was a tough race in really hot conditions, so I’m delighted to finish in second! It’s my best result of the season so far and a massive thank you to the team for all their hard work throughout the weekend. We made such good progress and I'm already looking forward to my home race at Donington Park in three weeks time.”

Oli Bayliss - PTR Triumph Factory Racing

“Not our best day today, after a positive warm up I thought we could have a good race, though as in the past we have struggled a lot in the hot conditions and I felt a bit like a sitting duck in the race. Now a bit of time off for the team while I go to the BSB rounds in between. Thanks to everyone for their support.”
