Diogo Moreira makes history as the first Brazilian Moto2™ Winner

The Triumph-powered Moto2™ field headed to Assen for the second race in two weeks, where Diogo Moreira made it three pole positions from three races and finally converted pole into victory – becoming the first Brazilian rider ever to win in the class.
In Saturday’s qualifying, Moreira made it a hat-trick of poles ahead of Ivan Ortola, who secured his first-ever front-row start, and Championship leader, Manuel Gonzalez. When the lights went out, Ortola grabbed the holeshot, but by Turn three, Moreira had taken control, with Aron Canet moving into third. Canet soon hit the front ahead of Moreira as Ortola slipped backwards.
Gonzalez dropped to eighth early on but mounted a strong comeback, picking off riders one by one. He passed Deniz Öncü into third before the Turkish rider unfortunately crashed out. With clear track ahead, Gonzalez chased Canet and Moreira, eventually taking a solid third place after running out of laps to close the gap.
At the front, Moreira stayed glued to Canet’s rear wheel for most of the race. When Canet ran wide late on, Moreira pounced, using the consistent torque and strong drive of the Triumph 765cc triple engine to edge ahead and secure a hard-fought, historic maiden Moto2™ victory for both himself and Brazil.
Jake Dixon was also on a charge, climbing from 11th on the grid to finish just shy of the podium in fourth, with Joe Roberts close behind in fifth, showing strong pace and confidence in the Triumph-powered field.
With lap records, intense battles and a diverse field of riders performing at their peak, the Assen weekend once again showcased the performance, reliability and excitement that Triumph’s triple engine brings to the heart of Moto2™.
